Current Information:Age-22 7, Magdala Road, Highgate Sandwick Cemetery, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland HMS Caribbean began life as the Royal Mail Ship Dunottar Castle but was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in November, 1914 and became a troop carrying vessel and then an armed merchant cruiser. On September 26th, 1915, whilst on her way to Scapa Flow, she foundered off Cape Wrath in Northern Scotland and sank early next morning, 27th September, 1915, with the loss of fifteen lives. A Court of Enquiry blamed the accident on scuttles that had been left open. |
